Christie celebrating 10th anniversary of co-op program with open house

Open House also kicks off recruitment drive for 20 software developers at all levels

KITCHENER, Ont. – (September 17, 2015) – Christie®, a global leader in visual and audio technologies, is hosting a public open house on Wednesday September 23rd from 3-7 p.m. at its worldwide center for engineering excellence in Kitchener, Ontario.

The open house celebrates the 10th anniversary of Christie’s co-op program, which has ‘graduated’ over 1000 students since 2005. The program has grown from a yearly total of 15 students to the current intake of more than 100 participants from over 50 academic programs and 10 schools - including the University of Waterloo, Conestoga College, Wilfrid Laurier University and the University of Guelph - with 25 percent of the students completing more than one term.

“The success of our co-op program is wholly due to the caliber of students who have participated,” says Kelly Carnahan, senior manager, talent management, Christie. “As an organization we value our role in the community to provide an educational, meaningful and productive experience for students. We’re thrilled to be celebrating the 10th anniversary of this program with past and current participants at this open house.”

Former co-op student David Pollock says of the program, “When I chose to go into the co-op program at Conestoga College I had plans of working at a different employer for each of the four terms; however, after my first work term here at Christie it became very clear that this was the sole place I wanted to work. What set Christie apart from my other employers and work experiences was the environment; at Christie, I felt encouraged to be myself and find challenges that would help the company succeed. When I graduated, I made it my goal to make it back to Christie as a full time employee, and I’m proud to say that goal has been achieved.”

In addition to celebrating its co-op program, Christie is expanding and recruiting for 20 software development positions at all levels, with engineering positions to follow. Engineering and software development staff will be available to answer questions for those interested in employment at Christie.

Guests will see patented projection mapping technology in action, courtesy of Christie’s Research and Innovation team. Using auto-calibration, Christie is taking a process that was once complicated to execute and time-consuming to calibrate projected images and scaled it down to less than 30 seconds. Attendees will see a 3D printed apartment building projection-mapped in real-time, a process for which Christie earned two patents on June 2, 2015.

Christie is located at 809 Wellington Street North and guests are asked to enter through the West Wing reception.
