CINEASIA 2015/Hong Kong – (December 8, 2015) – Christie®, a leader in creating and sharing the world's best visual and audio experiences, is previewing its first cinema laser phosphor projector and retrofit kit at CineAsia 2015, which is taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, December 8-10.
The Christie CP2208-LP is the only purpose-built projector for cinema use that meets DCI performance specifications and represents a sound financial decision for exhibitors. Capable of 8000 lumens in DCI P3 color space (10,000 native), and rated at 30,000 hours to 50 percent brightness, this new technology features lower maintenance costs, reduced environmental impact, and simplifies operational considerations for exhibitors. Visitors at the Christie booth No. 201 are able to see the Christie CP2208-LP in action and will be captivated by the rich and colorful images produced by this exceptional lampless projector, which will be available in early 2016.
At the same time, Christie will be launching the LP-10 laser phosphor retrofit kit for use in any of its S2K cinema products including the Solaria One/One+ and the recently launched CP2208 projection systems. The LP-10 retrofit kit, to be offered for purchase or under a convenient operating lease program, will bring the same performance characteristics and operational advantages of the CP2208-LP to these widely deployed lamp-based projectors.
“There has been a lot of interest in the Christie CP2208-LP since we unveiled the prototype version during the BIRTV trade show in August, and this is a clear indication of our commitment to providing innovative and cost-effective solutions for the cinema market,” said Don Shaw, senior director, product management, Christie. “As one of the world’s largest cinema lamp suppliers, we are uniquely positioned to understand various cinema market segments and costs associated with operating a projector on certain size screens. We did the math, and can show you that the CP2208-LP and LP-10 are only Cinema laser phosphor products on the market that actually deliver on the promises of performance and value while operating in DCI P3 color space.”
The Christie CP2208-LP can be considered as an evolution of the award-winning Christie GS Series 1DLP® laser phosphor projectors launched last year, which has been lauded for reliability, performance, and low cost of ownership by eliminating the cost of lamps and the maintenance associated with changing them. Unlike some laser hybrids, laser phosphor illumination provides impressively long hours of low-cost operation with a small footprint, low-weight and quiet operation. Building on these advantages and more, the CP2208-LP and LP-10 have been optimized for use in more demanding cinema applications and are targeted at the entry and mid-range market segments featuring smaller-sized projection screens.
“Our familiarity and expertise with laser phosphor technology has enabled us to develop a new product that serves as an alternative to traditional xenon lamp illumination systems for cinema in the segments of the market where it truly provides a benefit for exhibitors. Christie is once again showing an unparalleled edge in technology for products required by exhibitors around the world,” Shaw added.
Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific, commented, “The Christie CP2208-LP is a product catered to our customers from the entry to mid-range segments and we are confident that it will meet the needs of those who are looking for superior performance and lower maintenance costs. With optimal brightness, performance capabilities and long-life, laser phosphor illumination is certainly an exciting prospect that we will continue to develop, and we will continue to introduce a broad range of powerful laser-illuminated products in the near future.”
