“The Magic Flute” opera performances shine with brilliant visuals by Christie Roadster Series projectors

SEOUL, South Korea - (August 30, 2017) - Christie®, a leader in creating and delivering the world’s best visual and audio experiences, is mesmerizing audiences with an enchanting visual spectacle at the “The Magic Flute” (Die Zauberflöte) opera performances.

Currently playing at the Seoul Arts Center’s CJ Towol Theater until September 27, the well-loved fairy tale opera composed by Mozart has been an instant hit with audiences since the Seoul Arts Center’s opera house opened in 1993. This year, the new production team decided to reproduce the opera to cater to a younger audience, including children from the age of four, in an effort to attract more families. This also marks the third consecutive year that the Christie Roadster Series have been deployed for the performances.

The amazing visuals have been brought to life using two Christie Roadster WU20K-J 3DLP® projectors sponsored by Christie Korea and installed by Christie’s Korean partner IMTEC for this opera performance. One unit is deployed for rear screen projection while the other projector is used for projections on the front curtain. The results are bright, colorful and lifelike visuals that enhanced the overall quality of the 135-minute performance and heightened the audience’s enjoyment of this classic opera. Lively and flamboyant images displayed in the “garden” scenes, as well as visuals exhibiting outstanding detail and contrast in the darker “Temple” scenes help to immerse audiences into the story about Prince Tamino’s quest to rescue Pamina from the evil clutches of high priest Sarastro.

“This is the first time that the production team has revamped the opera to make it more family-friendly, and we are using more digital art in the background instead of real life background props to create a more seamless and engaging experience to audiences,” said Min-Don Joo, Director, IMTEC. “We’re pleased that the Roadster WU20K-J projectors installed in the theater are delivering exciting visuals that not only brought the various scenes to life, they also enabled audiences both young and old to better appreciate the opera performance.”

Henry Khang, General Manager, Christie Korea, commented, “We’re pleased to return as a sponsor of this highly popular opera, more so for this year’s performances since families are now the target audience. We’re also delighted that our Roadster WU20K-J projectors have captivated the audience with astounding visuals and adding more realism and spectacle to the opera. I’m also thankful to our partner IMTEC for completing the installation and demonstrating to theater owners and performing arts groups that digital projection is the way to go to in enhancing audiences’ enjoyment of stage performances.”

This year’s production team features Conductor Ji Joong-bae and Director Jang Young-ah who collaborated on a 2013 production of “Turandot.” The performance stars top notch Korean singers such as Tenor Kim Se-il (as Tamino), Baritone Woo Gyeong-sik (as Papageno), and Soprano Yang Gui-bee (as Princess Pamina) with accompaniment by the Korea Symphony Orchestra and Grande Opera Choir.

The opera has been playing to sell-out crowds since its opening last Wednesday, with families flocking to the theater to experience Mozart’s whimsical and imaginative tale of good versus evil. In this production, arias are sung in German while the lines are delivered in Korean. In addition, Korean subtitles are displayed on the screen when the singers are singing in German so that children could better appreciate and understand the opera.

Ideal for large venues such as concert halls and auditoriums, the Xenon-illuminated WU20K-J provides the most natural color accuracy and stability with the next level of technology, performance and flexibility. The additional standard features - an expanded lens suite and world-renowned Christie warranties, service and support - ensure the Christie Roadster WU20K-J provides high performance and more lumens per watt in the smallest chassis in its class.
