CINEASIA / HONG KONG – (December 13, 2012) – Christie®, a global leader in digital cinema projection, is proud to announce that TGV Cinemas (TGV), Malaysia’s premier theater operator, selected Christie for its massive digital cinema conversion in Malaysia. TGV’s 22 sites in Peninsular Malaysia will be exclusively using 164 Christie DLP Digital Cinema® CP2220 projectors for its 2D and 3D presentations.
According to Kenny Wong, Chief Executive Officer of TGV Cinemas, the cinema exhibitor decided to join the league of Asian countries in the digital cinema revolution. He noted that TGV hopes to achieve strategic efficiency and cost reduction in its operations with Christie CP2220 projectors, which are the brightest, highest-performing projectors with the lowest operating costs in their class, as well as through the adoption of digital storage media for cinema content.
“Digital cinema technology offers a number of benefits such as cost reduction in the long-run, and most importantly, it provides longevity in quality for cinematic experiences. Christie Solaria® Series projectors have elevated this to an even higher level with their pristine visual- projection quality, undisputable reliability as well as the flexibility to be upgradable to 4K. This will definitely enhance the cinema-going experience for the local audience in Malaysia,” comments Wong. “At TGV, we are conscious of the environment. We’re very happy to be working with Christie, a company who shares the same environmental belief. By switching to digital cinema, we’re playing our part in sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint from transporting films and creating a safer working environment by minimizing the use of ‘flammable’ film reels.”
Christie partnered with Eugenetek Corporation for the installation, testing and commissioning of the projectors at TGV’s 22 sites with the installation expected to be completed in early 2013.
According to Danson Foo, director, Eugenetek Corporation (M) Sdn Bhd, “The advent of 3D, HFR and high quality projection has changed the cinema landscape worldwide. We’re honored to play our part in transforming cinemas in Malaysia.”
“As a global digital cinema projection leader, we’re pleased to share our global successes with TGV and also integrate our most popular Solaria Series digital cinema projectors into its chain of theaters,” comments Lin Yu, vice president, Christie Asia Pacific. “We’re also very proud to be associated with TGV, one of Malaysia’s top cinema operators; one that constantly innovates to bring the latest technologies and best experiences to the cinema-going audience in Malaysia.”
