Company Ushers in 25th Anniversary with New Signal Management, Display Technologies
GRASS VALLEY, CA – Sierra Video, a leading provider of high-quality video and audio equipment for the broadcast, government, and professional audio/video marketplaces, today announced its 2009 offerings for the NAB Expo in April. The company will showcase its new Juniper™ family of 1RU HD/SDI routing switchers, new board options – including 3Gbps HD-SDI – for its Ponderosa™ Multi-Format Routing Switchers, a greatly expanded TyLinx Pro™ Router Control Software product, as well as the addition of the openGear™ terminal equipment platform.
Sierra Video is celebrating 25 Years of Peak Performance by introducing a broad slate of new products and features. “We’re kicking off our anniversary year by energizing existing product lines and adding complementary technologies,” said CEO John Milne. “This year at NAB, customers will find an array of new products with the best design and most reliable performance. We’re also renewing our commitment to customer support and timely service by substantially increasing available resources to our sales channels.”
Sierra Video’s new Juniper family of routing switchers offers multi-rate HD-SDI/SDI signal routing in a slim 1RU frame, with companion AES/EBU digital and analog stereo audio options, and many high-end features such as 3Gbps video boards, automatic reclocking, and Silent Switch™ technology for live-to-air applications. Silent Switch technology allows users to complete a seamless switch between synchronous HD video
signals with embedded audio, eliminating the popping or clicking noise associated with ordinary HD-SDI and SDI routing switchers.
The Juniper 3G 8 Series routing switchers are a 3Gbps HD/SDI video series conforming to SMPTE 424M standards and offering on-board digital and analog audio options. The Juniper 16 Series is a 1.5G series that can be configured with 16 inputs/2 outputs, 16 inputs/1 output or 16 inputs/dual output (2 outputs that switch in conjunction, eliminating the need for additional DA hardware); each of those configurations can, in turn, be ordered with Sierra Video’s Silent Switch technology. Each Juniper routing switcher offers front panel control and both digital & analog audio routing in the same frame.
The company has added 3Gbps HD/SDI video to the Ponderosa product line and added features such as optional fiber optic modules. The Ponderosa multi-format routing switcher is the premiere HD router for critical broadcast, production and post-production facilities. As signal integrity is essential in any high speed data rate and in order to meet the SMPTE 424 standard, great scrutiny and care was given to the entire signal path architecture. The resulting routing switcher exceeds industry standards. The 1.5Gbps video routing switcher is still available and has been retrofitted to accommodate fiber optic modules as well as a D-to-A conversion output boards for analog applications such as composite video monitoring.
The functionality of Sierra Video’s TyLinx Pro Router Control Software has been greatly expanded with the new TyLinx Pro Net™ Router Control Software, network-enabled software that includes the original customization and security features of TyLinx Pro, but now provides unlimited seats on a company’s network. TyLinx Pro Net is a Client/Server-based program for routing switcher operation and configuration within a network environment. With TyLinx Pro Net, an unlimited number of users on PCs or Macs can connect to and control the routing system’s configuration, control panels, and user profiles, manage alarms and/or GPIs over the network.
Finally, Sierra Video has become an openGear partner, providing openGear terminal equipment to its product lines. The openGear terminal equipment platform is based on an open-architecture, 2RU modular frame designed to accommodate up to 10 cards.
A wide variety of modules is available including up/down/cross converters, embedders and de-embedders, D-to-A and A-to-D converters, distribution amplifiers, and frame synchronizers. openGear also provides the platform with a control system that allows quick and easy monitoring and control of frames and modules on the network.
