Rocket Surgery Oceania Launches with Asian Academy Creative Awards

Ottawa, Canada, December 17th 2020 – Rocket Surgery – Ross Video’s in-house creative and professional services division – is pleased to announce that Adam Duncombe has joined the company and will head up the newly created Oceania arm which will be based in Sydney, Australia.

Adam’s first job with Rocket Surgery and Ross has been to provide support to the recent Asian Academy Creative Awards (AAA) event that was held at the beginning of December 2020 in both Singapore and Sydney. This year’s awards and conference was an all-virtual affair in response to the ongoing pandemic but Chairman of Awards Ricky Ow, speaking in advance of the awards, was upbeat about the opportunities provided by an online event. "The AAA’s mission is to recognise the best in storytelling in Asia and to promote them to the world, and I’m very glad we will continue to have this event this year. This is the time to be more innovative and more bold, so the awards show will use an array of technology to go virtual and I think it’s going to be an exciting four day event."

The event wrapped on December 4th and the broadcast production was again overseen by AAA President Michael McKay. A high tech VFX driven awards ceremony was beamed live from the AAA’s very own 3D theatre and combined content from remote studio locations in both Singapore and Sydney. The whole event was driven by international live production powerhouse Ross Video. Ross provided real-time virtualisation via the Voyager graphics rendering solution which was used in conjunction with the XPression Live CG system and Lucid Studio control platform. In addition, AAA[tv] broadcast live from the Red Carpet event on Friday December 4th, and Facebook also streamed this event live to a global audience.

"Ross Video has an immense awards show pedigree having worked the Oscars, Emmys, Golden Globes and E!’s Red Carpet shows so we were thrilled to partner with them for Asia-Pac’s own showcase event," McKay said. Amanda Leighton, Director of Sales for Oceania, is pleased to see Rocket Surgery Oceania debuting with such a high-profile event. "Rocket Surgery has worked on a number of prestigious international events over the years, and so it’s great to welcome Adam to the Ross family and have his creative expertise dedicated to the region. I know we have lots of customers who will benefit from his talents, especially as we see so many events organizers embracing online and virtual events and finding new creative ways to reach their audiences." For his part, Adam Duncombe is looking forward to working with a diverse range of customers. "Ross has such an amazing customer base," he notes. "We work with broadcasters, sports clubs and venues, houses of worship, educators, legislatures and corporate bodies. I know we can help all of these customers produce even more creative content that tells their stories, and I’m looking forward to a busy 2021!"
